As an Environmental Studies major, the first thing Mayer learned at De Anza was the definition of Environmental Science. The second thing he learned (and is still learning) is how to work towards solutions to the issues that we are currently facing.
Mayer Adelberg is a De Anza freshman with a passion for social and environmental justice. In short, Mayer is running for Environmental Sustainability Chair to help the De Anza community minimize its carbon and ecological footprints while improving the quality of the campus and environmental programs.
Mayer is well qualified for a leadership position in DASB. Throughout high school, he served as an elected communication representative on the local and regional boards of his youth group, USY. He has volunteered within the Bay at the Palo Alto Humane Society, the South Palo Alto Food Closet, the San Jose Project Linus chapter, and has spent weekends with cleanup crews in San Francisco to pickup litter. Further away, he and 800 other teens converged on New Orleans, Louisiana in 2013 to participate in new cleanup efforts from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. In 2016, he participated in a smaller effort to assist the workers of a collection center just outside Fort Worth, Texas.
He is a percussionist in De Anza's Concert Band and previously played vibraphone for the Jazz Band. Mayer is also sales associate at the local Guitar Center and serves as the IT Director for a traveling Holocaust museum.
